The longest earthquake I’ve ever felt happened this afternoon. A 7.2 magnitude quake centered less than 100 miles away. It was only 6.2 miles below the surface of the earth. People felt it as far as way as Los Angeles and Phoenix.
We live on an active planet. Earthquakes are a reminder that there is more to the ground beneath our feet than asphalt and highways, meadows and fields. Enormous changes are going on beneath us all the time. It really does make you feel insignificant–a little tiny creature on a seething rotating sphere.
