June ended on a productive note here at Casa P. The West is suffering a heat wave but being on the coast means much milder temperatures. That’s not to say Mr. P and I weren’t complaining about heat. We seemed to jump right from very mild temps to very warm ones with no acclimation time. Despite that, things got done in the backyard. We love the rock purslane in our succulent garden. So do the bees and hummingbirds. Watching the yellow bumble bees load up on the pollen is a great start to any day. After the Home Depot run, we had three more to plant, along with several other succulents. And since we can’t seem to get enough Australian natives in the yard, we just had to pick up two Joeys. This is Ptilotus exaltatus.Pink, purple and various shades of green seem to be predominate in the back yard. This will be especially true when our new bottle brush blooms. Mr. P found this one on the way home from surfing Saturday. He phoned to ask which one I wanted as they had two varieties. Callistemon Jeffersii has been my top choice for the back yard and fortunately, that was one of the two available. When it blooms, the brushes will be a beautiful deep pink. I can’t wait! A full weekend of yard work was accomplished here. How was your weekend? Are you ready for July?
