Another happy-making collection I was privileged to sew with for Market is Jane Sassaman’s Sweet Lady Jane. I’m a little biased, of course. I think she’s a fabulous artist, a great person and a good friend. Still, I think you’ll agree she has some wonderful designs in this collection. I started with a quilted bag, my Fancy Free Floppy Bag available for free through Free Spirit here. Quilting the exterior portion of the bag reduces the floppy nature of the design, but more than makes up for it with the additional visual interest and texture. The second bag is another of my patterns available for free through Free Spirit, the Mat Carrier bag found here. Don’t you just love the effect of those fussy cut strips? Here’s the back of the bag.More fussy cutting had to be done for this pillow. And I couldn’t resist doing a bit of cross stitch in those large gingham checks. It’s part of the quilting holding the patchwork top together. Nor could I resist buttons. For the second pillow I added white solid for a sweetly dramatic effect. More buttons on this one. Naturally. The last piece was a table runner. Simple 2 1/2″ squares on point make good use of the inherent movement in these two prints. I have a bit more Sweet Lady Jane at my disposal so you’ll be seeing more projects featuring this optimistic collection. At this point in my Market sewing, I thought I was done. Turned out, I was wrong about that. There was one more group of fabric which I’ll show you later this week. And after that….we’ll be back to the usual around here.
