Now that Quilt Market has come and gone, I can share the projects I made over the last few months. First up, Jane’s newest collection called Gregory’s Garden. I’m always excited about Jane’s fabrics, as you know. Her bold use of color and the stylized designs always capture my attention. Her stripes are a wonderful bit of the unexpected. As soon as I saw them, I knew what to do. The pillow uses two different colorways in the striped print to dramatic effect. This is a print that will do a lot of the hard work for you. For the quilt I used simple nine patch blocks with fussy cut squares to create a larger nine patch design with sashing. It works up very quickly and would make a great kid’s quilt or picnic quilt. I also made a rectangular pillow to accentuate the diamond print. No need to get fussy on this one, just let the fabric do its thing. The tote is one of my favorite projects from this round of sewing. It has buckram to help it keeps it’s shape. I made it roomy enough to take along your towel, sunscreen, beach read and snacks–and still have space left over to pick up a few things on the way home for a lazy summer supper.
Free Spirit will be providing free patterns for all of these projects. I’ll keep you updated when I have more information on where to find them. I also worked up a few digital designs for this collection. Look for those to appear here on the blog in the coming months.
