Gregory’s Garden — Jane Sassaman’s Newest Collection

Now that Quilt Market has come and gone, I can share the projects I made over the last few months. First up, Jane’s newest collection called Gregory’s Garden. I’m always excited about Jane’s fabrics, as you know. Her bold use of color and the stylized designs always capture my attention.Greg's Garden pillow and quiltHer stripes are a wonderful bit of the unexpected. As soon as I saw them, I knew what to do. The pillow uses two different colorways in the striped print to dramatic effect. This is a print that will do a lot of the hard work for you. For the quilt I used simple nine patch blocks with fussy cut squares to create a larger nine patch design with sashing. It works up very quickly and would make a great kid’s quilt or picnic quilt. Greg's Garden pillow and toteI also made a rectangular pillow to accentuate the diamond print. No need to get fussy on this one, just let the fabric do its thing. The tote is one of my favorite projects from this round of sewing. It has buckram to help it keeps it’s shape. I made it roomy enough to take along your towel, sunscreen, beach read and snacks–and still have space left over to pick up a few things on the way home for a lazy summer supper.

Free Spirit will be providing free patterns for all of these projects. I’ll keep you updated when I have more information on where to find them. I also worked up a few digital designs for this collection. Look for those to appear here on the blog in the coming months.

  1. These are all so wonderful both the fabrics and what you have made with them. This is another wonderful range from Jane. I really like the pattern that looks like pussy willow buds, and those stripes will inspire many wonderful creations for sure!!

  2. Wow! I love your blog posts. They are always full of colour and inspiration!

  3. Another wonderful Sassaman collection! These stripes are really intriguing and the beautiful pillow you’ve created made me search the web for their availability. I could not yet find a shop advertising Gregory’s Garden, but I’m sure I’ll find one soon. Everything you’ve created absolutely makes this collection shine! Jane must be very happy to have you promote her beautiful designs!!

  4. It is so exciting to follow along and see how each different collection “speaks” to you and inspires you differently, Melissa! I learn so much from just watching to see what you do each time. :) I am “into” garden-themed lately, and love how you’ve embellished the tote with the fabric flower. My peomies are nearly ready to bloom (yes! I have peonies in my new garden!! Yahoo! )… and the fabric flower on the tote reminds me of a peony.

  5. I love the diamond cushion too! The blue in the centre fabric is so like a sunny sky! Lovely makes Melissa!

  6. I love it all!! It has to be heaven to work with such gorgeous fabrics!! You did justice to them all. :)
