Happy Friday! Guess what. The medallion is done and ready for borders! I am giddy over this one. Absolutely giddy.
I like medallion quilts a lot, but am usually disappointed in the small medallion centers. I wanted one that would be a statement all by itself. You know what they say, “If you want something done, do it yourself.” So, I got out some paper, taped the sheets together and started working on pieces for foundation piecing. And here it is! This is a 36″ square so there is plenty of room to let the fabric shine. Quilts that act as snapshots of my stash are a sure thing for me. There’s something extra special about them. Since my Anna Maria Horner stash is quite extensive, I had no problem pulling fabrics. This represents years of both Anna’s artistic efforts and my joyful collecting. It’s a good fit, I think–Anna’s art and my hoarding.I’m working on borders now, trying to decide how big to go and what to do to get there. To be honest, I’d be perfectly happy to stop here but I think I’ll keep going. I plan to hand quilt this with Anna’s new Aurifil 12 wt. threads, which should be arriving soon. And because I can’t help myself, and because all these bits are still out on my cutting table, I started some more foundation piecing. How’s that for crazy?
I hope you’re enjoying your projects as much as I’m enjoying mine. Stay cool this weekend and keep creating!
