Happy Friday, my friends! It seems like the week was twice as long as it should have been. And yet, I have half as much to show for it. Isn’t that way of things these days?
Last week, I received an email inquiry about an old free pattern I made for Free Spirit using Valori Wells’ Wrenly fabrics. We’re talking 2012 here. Five years, which in the fabric world is an eon ago. I did manage to find the files but decided to rework them a bit. This is a throw size quilt–not too difficult and a good pattern for fussy cutting a favorite feature print. Click here for the pdf file. This is a virtual quilt to show you how this would look in Tula Pink’s hot new collection, Tabby Road. I chose to keep the triangles out of the same print in each column, which is different from the pattern. Which means slightly different fabric requirements. Specifically, you need 5/8 yard of each of Cat Eyes and Fur Ball to make the triangles. To get the same fussy cuts as I made for this virtual quilt, you will need at least 1 5/8 yards of Disco Kitty.
For any large personality print you choose to feature, you will need to allow for extra yardage. How much extra will depend on the repeat. Even if you error on the side of having way too much, remember that it’s easy to use up those design elements in other projects. It’s always better safe than sorry. And when talking about Tula fabrics, never, ever think you will have a chance to purchase more to make up for it at a later date. Her fabrics become impossible to find very quickly. Just so you know.Stinka and I are wishing you a very happy Friday and a relaxing weekend. Have fun and be creative!
