After an unusually cool summer, August left us with a heat wave. The days have been hot and humid. Our poor little house doesn’t do well in the sustained heat. It’s one of the drawbacks to old houses–no insulation, no central air. It has created a bit of a quandary for me. If I use the portable AC unit to try to keep the indoor temperature below 80 degrees, I can’t turn on the iron. Sewing becomes a juggling act of appliance monitoring and must be slotted for the earliest part of the day.Stinka has it right. This is weather you just have to endure, doing the best you can. If it means lazing around, so be it. I’ve taken a page out of her book for the long weekend. Mr. P just got back last night from a surf trip to Panama so I’ve been sitting around listening to stories about surf camps and beach breaks, fishing for jake fish and barracuda, bus rides and airport hang ups. Not a bad way to enjoy forced relaxation.
For all my American and Canadian friends, enjoy the extra day on this Labor Day weekend. To everyone else, I hope your week gets off to a great start.
