What a weekend! Lightning, thunder and lots of rain. In two days, we received more rain than we’ve ever had in the entire month of July in recorded weather history. Today the clouds are gone and the temperatures have dropped back closer to normal. The cats are also back to normal, seeking out shady spots and napping the day away.Summer always seems to go by so quickly. Well, all the days do anymore, but summer still seems to be the quickest. I usually have mental lists of what I want to accomplish over the summer–house project lists, reading lists, sewing lists. For some reason, I don’t always get very far with them. Inevitably, stuff comes up. And then before you know it, it’s almost Market and Fall is here.
So, this time around, the mental list is simple. Just do what I can. It sounds ridiculously simple, doesn’t it? And totally obvious. Because really, I can’t do more than is humanly possible. So there are things I want to start that I don’t have time for. So there are stacks of fabric that I won’t be getting to anytime soon. It’s always going to be that way. And frankly, I don’t think I could handle it if I didn’t have a long list of things I want to make and create.I need to have those things and ideas waiting on the sidelines. Even if I never get to all of them. The newest thing on the sidelines–this gorgeous stack of Anna Maria Horner‘s Loominous. They are amazing. They make me think of shirts and aprons, kitchen towels and napkins. (Design note: these would mix well with Kaffe’s shot cottons and stripes.)
Another stack of pretty fabrics arrived recently, but I’ll save those for another post. Right now, I need to grab a glass of iced tea, sit back and enjoy a perfect summer evening. Maybe dream up a few more ideas for the non-list I’m keeping.
