Happy Friday! I have some cheery Scandia goodies to show you today. Jane’s fabrics always include prints that are perfect for fussy cutting. Which is a huge part of the appeal for me. The Vineyard print with these darling birds make excellent coasters. I used the EZ Quilting hexagon template (measuring 5 1/2″ from flat side to flat side of the hexie, I believe) to cut the main print, one layer of fusible fleece and one layer of heavy duty stabilizer. You need to cut the backing 1″ bigger on all sides. Layer the backing, stabilizer, fleece and right side up fabric. Fuse. Then fold the backing towards the sides of the hexagon 1/2″ all the way around. Fold it over again 1/2″ and pin in place. Edgestitch it and you’re all done! For the table mat, I fussy cut flower portions of the same Vineyard print and paired them with Over The Dots. I had just enough bits to get six of those flower pieces. These are 60 degree triangles which is what you need for the hexagon shape. But you can vary the depth of the triangle “tips” and/or the triangle “bases”–a versatile shape for fabric play.
The French Press jacket is from an old free project sheet in the Freebies section which you can find here. I used the Cardigan print and fussy cut the portion I liked best.
I hope you find a bit of inspiration in these little projects. Sometimes, there just isn’t room on our To Do lists for lengthy, involved projects. That’s when a bit of fussy cutting can really make your day. Or afternoon. As the case may be.
Have a great weekend everyone! I’ve contacted the winners for the last giveaway. But don’t worry if you didn’t win. We still have a Sis Boom Hotel Fredicksted giveaway to catch up on some time in the next couple of weeks. Stay posted!
