I have more of Jane Sassaman’s Scandia to share with you today. This time, it’s the blue colorway made up in an overnight bag for Free Spirit for Quilt Market. (You will be able to find a free pattern for this eventually on the MakeItCoats website.)
When deciding what to make with these fabrics, I knew I wanted to highlight the fussy cutting of both the Vineyard and the Tiles prints. Those two birds are just delightful and needed their own feature. So I placed them on the front as a pocket. I just happened to have a yellow zipper that matched perfectly and so another design decision was made. The Garland print with its cheery yellow background has just the right amount of negative space in the design, so I chose it for the main body of the bag. There’s a full zippered opening at the top so you can cram as much as possible into this bag. I finished the ends with black triangles for an additional design feature. It’s such an optimistic looking bag. Don’t you just want to grab those straps and set off on an adventure?
