During the month of April, I’ll be sharing Anna Maria Horner’s next collection for Free Spirit, Mod Corsage. Isn’t that a beautiful stack? One of my favorite things about Anna Maria’s collections is the way they coordinate without being obvious. Something that is definitely true about this one.As usual, I gravitated towards the blues first. With the hints of coral and the dashes of gold, there is plenty to liven things up. Even those who think blues are boring will find themselves getting excited about these.Especially when they’re cut up into hexies. I wasn’t ready for a long term EPP project so I turned my thoughts to pillows. I chose a gorgeous turquoise solid (Free Spirit Designer Essential) and worked up a design for a small rectangular pillow.I used my hexies to frame a design element from the gray colorway. I appliqued it to the solid, added hexies to the corners and quilted it up. It now has pride of place on my chair. It sure makes that IKEA gray pop, don’t you think? Here’s a close up of the echo quilting.Mod Corsage ships to stores next month. You might want to make a little room in your stash for some of these. Just sayin’.
Hello there! How was your week? Stinka and I have been a little lazy this week. Stinka, because laziness is what being a cat is all about. Me, because getting motivated seemed to be an impossible task. Changing the clocks did not help. Yesterday, things started getting back on track.Weather-wise, it’s been perfect. Ideal Southern California spring weather–morning clouds giving way to sunny skies with temperatures in the high 60’s, low 70’s. The citrus trees are in bloom and the air smells heavenly. Outside the back door is an old mandarin orange tree. All I have to do is open the kitchen and bathroom windows and their perfume fills the house. Stinka likes rolling around on the narrow sidewalk, part of which lies under this tree. Which means she smells lovely too.Citrus must be on my mind a lot lately. Here’s my latest purchase from Quilt Home. A pretty little mix of Anna Maria Horner fabrics.I’m not sure what will become of these but they’re rounding out my stash.
Have a very Happy Friday and a wonderful weekend!
Happy Friday! And welcome to a One Fabric Nation post. This time the collection is Zandra Rhodes’ Feathered. Free Spirit sent me a yard of each sku to play with. First up, the reds. The gold and purple accents really make this colorway pop, don’t you think? The gray colorway has hints of aqua and red with jolts of gold. The blue green colorway is quite vibrant in its own right.
My favorite print is the Squiggle. It makes a great addition to any stash. I combined the red Squiggle with the gray colorway for a bit of drama in this pillow cover. This block is known as Sunny Lanes. I made mine to finish at 14″ and used buttons instead of quilting. I find buttons hard to resist.I’ll talk more about this collection over the next few weeks. And there are rumors of a giveaway…so stay tuned!
Have a great weekend!
