It’s that time again! Quiltmaker 100 Blocks, Volume 9 hits newsstands on May 6th. The blog tour starts today so be sure to check out Quiltmaker’s blog for all the details. Happily, I have a block in this issue, block #889. It’s called Controlled Chaos. (Funny how that name, chosen almost a year ago, perfectly describes Casa P right now.) Anyhow…back to the block. Here’s my slightly wonky photo of it, right before it was shipped off to Quiltmaker:My favorite thing about this block is it’s scrappy potential. I selected various pinks from my Sis Boom scrap stash. You could give this block a completely different look by using all the colors in your stash.
I also worked up a red one from my Kaffe stash. There may be a small stack of these in my future. They’re so much fun to make. When you join the blocks together without any sashing, you end up with a 4″ x 8″ section of solid surrounding the scrappy fun. I think it would look amazing to have the negative space quilted with a chevron design.Of course, you don’t have to use a solid. You could substitute a tonal fabric, a polka dot, a gingham print. It’s up to you. Pull from your stash and starting playing.
