Autumn will be here soon. Ridiculous as that might sound, it’s true. Technically, there are less then two weeks left of Summer. And you know what that means, right? The holidays are coming! (These days I feel like that statement has all the impact of “Winter is coming” as intoned by any bloody Stark.)
Making handmade means starting early. It also means keeping things on the small side. Just like these cute pin cushions. Grab some fat quarters of 1/8 yard strips, maybe even raid your scrap bin. I used the Hotel Fredericksted by Jennifer Paganelli which was sent to me by Free Spirit for One Fabric Nation. All you need are six 60 degree diamonds cut with Darlene Zimmerman’s 60 degree diamond template and 3 1/2″ strips. (I like this template because it’s orange and therefore easy to find in my mess.) Sew the diamonds together along their sides. When you sew the last seam joining the first and last diamonds, leave a gap of about 2″ for turning. Trim off the points, turn it inside out and stuff it. Then sew the opening closed. With heavy duty thread (or pearl cotton), sew decorative buttons over the center on both sides. And that’s it! Quick and easy.Hotel Fredericksted will start arriving in stores in November. So there’s time for you to get your list together. Whatever projects you decide to make, you will inevitably have scraps. And now you have something to do with them too!Happy Friday!!
