Blue has always been my favorite color. The color of the sky and the sea. It is found in brilliance on peacocks and in dusky beauty in blueberries. It can increase productivity and decrease appetite. The color blue symbolizes stability, truth, and peace.
It appears that blue is an expensive and/or poisonous color to make. However, chemists at Oregon State are on the case after a completely accidental discovery. A little manganese oxide, some white yttrium oxide and a bit of pale yellow indium oxide all heated to almost 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and-voila!- a shocking new blue.
See the NY Times article for a picture of this newly discovered blue.
